The world’s first 300MW artificial cavern compressed air energy storage project participated by ShaanGu is being advanced at full speed.

This project pioneers the large-scale artificial cavern gas storage technology in underground rock masses, breaking the bottleneck that the site selection of large-scale compressed air energy storage power stations is restricted by salt cavern resources. It is of great significance for improving power station efficiency and reducing gas storage system investment. After being put into operation, it will deliver 594 million kWh of green electricity annually.
In response to the special working conditions of the project’s artificial cavern, as well as the requirements for operational efficiency and safety and stability of the whole system, ShaanGu has customized and built multiple large-scale compressor units for the project. The whole process from aerodynamic optimization design, structural reliability upgrade to system-wide adaptive commissioning has achieved independent control, providing the core power guarantee for the efficient operation of the entire energy storage power station. The project also adopts the world’s first non-supplementary fired compressed air energy storage technology, achieving a major breakthrough with a comprehensive system efficiency of over 70%.

At present, all commissioning work is progressing steadily. The ShaanGu team will make every effort to ensure the successful completion of all unit commissioning on schedule, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent overall grid connection and operation of the project.
