Deep in the Gobi Desert, the World’s First 300 MW-Class Artificial Cavern-Type Compressed Air Energy Storage Station Is Rising.
Deep in the Gobi Desert, 110 meters underground, a world record is being born…
Recently, good news came from the Gansu Jiuquan Demonstration Project of the world’s first 300 MW-class artificial cavern-type compressed air energy storage (CAES) station, in which Shaangu participated: the first phase of the initial gas injection test for underground Gas Storage Cavern No. 4 was successfully completed in one attempt, with a maximum injection pressure of 12.63 MPa, setting a world record for the largest cross-section, highest volume, and highest pressure of an artificial cavern gas storage facility for CAES. Throughout the test cycle, the storage cavern operated in good condition with excellent performance indicators, marking a successful transition of China’s large-scale artificial cavern gas storage technology from scientific research to engineering practice.
Behind this major milestone, the multiple large compressor units custom-built by Shaangu for the project served as the core power guarantee for the success of the gas injection test.
