In 2025, the compressed air energy storage (CAES) power plant constructed by the customer was successfully connected to the grid. As the world’s first CAES power plant with wide sliding-pressure in frigid high-altitude regions and a key project under the national “Challenge Initiative” program, it has solved the industry-wide challenge of applying energy storage technologies in such environments and injected strong impetus into the construction of a new power system. As a core partner, ShaanGu tailored large-scale compressor units and a full set of system solutions for the project, supporting the implementation of this benchmark project with its solid technical strength.

Behind this recognition lies ShaanGu’s technological accumulation and perseverance in innovation. Over the years, ShaanGu has conducted in-depth research on CAES technologies and now possesses full-series design and manufacturing capabilities from medium to high temperatures, capable of meeting compressed air energy storage system needs ranging from small-scale 10MW to large-scale 660MW. The compressor is the most critical equipment in a CAES project. ShaanGu’s independently developed axial compressor units have been recognized as a Single Product Champion in China’s manufacturing industry, with cumulative output exceeding 2,600 units, ranking first globally. The innovatively developed AV140 axial compressor by ShaanGu has set a new global benchmark in the industrial compressor field.

This CAES project in the frigid high-attitude region has achieved 100% localization of key core equipment and has made significant breakthroughs in process solutions, core equipment, and air storage forms. Upon operation, it is expected to achieve a daily power generation of 40,000 kWh, with annual power generation exceeding 13.2 million kWh, sufficient to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 8,000 ordinary households. Additionally, this power plant is capable of providing diversified energy such as domestic hot water and air conditioning cooling.
